OK now I can admit that things have gone a bit odd.

Do you have more than identity set up? look in its possible that an
ID with a short IDToken is matching a bunch of seemingly unrelated
messages.

I still recommend upgrading to the "test" version of Xnews, its been
working fine for me for months don't let the name scare you. If the above
doesn't help you might combine that with starting a new Xnews install from
scratch, at this point that may be more worthwhile than trying to find the
problem.
