I've only tried it with my local Leafnode.

It's certainly an active project. The filtering abilities don't seem to
be up to much for usenet as far as I can see, though. I'd expect anyone
wanting to merge multiple servers into a single feed would also need
'advanced' filtering or scoring facilities.
